Whether in the Colony, Pack, Troop or Unit, or even as a Trustee or manager, the Programme is ultimately the entire purpose of Scouting. Our volunteers work tirelessly to create varied, fun, balanced programmes every week, as well as putting on camps and other weekend activities.
Badgework
No matter which Section you visit, you can see the evidence of the programme on the arms of each young person. There are hundreds of different badges to achieve, and almost everything we do goes towards an aspect of a badge or award. Some of them are focussed on proficiency in one activity, and some are more broad, encompassing a theme such as Adventure, Global Awareness, or Fitness. Each Section has a top award called the Chief Scout’s Award; achieving this shows that they have taken part in a balanced programme for all of their time within that Section, and they have achieved a varied range of other Challenge Awards along the way.
